Who operates this website

This website is operated by Plan My Pilgrimage, LLC, based in Minnesota, United States. This notice explains how we use information collected through this website. You can reach us with privacy questions or requests at hello@planmypilgrimage.org or through our contact page.

When you contact us

Our contact form collects your first name, last name, email address and message. We use these details to answer your inquiry and manage related correspondence. Squarespace, which hosts this website, processes and stores the submission. A copy of form submissions is also sent to our business Gmail inbox, provided through Google Workspace, so we can read and respond to it. If you email us directly, we receive your email address, message and any name or other information you choose to include.

Sending a contact message does not subscribe you to our newsletter. Please include information relevant to your inquiry.

Newsletter signup

When you choose to join Notes for the journey, we collect your email address with your consent to provide newsletter updates and manage your subscription. Your email address and subscription record are stored in Squarespace's subscriber list.

Newsletter updates have not started yet. You can withdraw your signup or request removal from the list at any time by emailing hello@planmypilgrimage.org or using our contact page.

Planning tools

The optional destination chooser processes your preferences in the page and does not save them. My pilgrimage accepts a public destination link or your selection. Save destination on this device saves only the destination and save time under a separate browser-storage entry. It does not overwrite older tool copies. Remove saved destination removes that entry only. Clear all saved plans asks for confirmation, then removes the saved destination and the four saved tool copies from this browser.

My pilgrimage reads compatible saved tool copies in the same browser. Budget and checklist information is included in the summary only when you select the inclusion controls; those print selections are not saved. The tools are not automatically tied to a destination. Public destination links contain only a place identifier, never your budget or checklist entries. Printing or saving a summary as PDF may include the information you chose to include; you control the file and any sharing.

Our destination comparison, checklist, budget and route-version tools require no account or email signup. Entries and selections are processed in the page; the tools do not send them to us.

By default, changes remain in the open page only. Save on this device optionally stores a snapshot of that tool's selections or numerical entries, plus a save time, in this browser's local storage. Saving is manual: choose Save again after changes. A saved copy is normally restored when you return using the same browser and website address. A public route-template link takes priority over a previously saved route version until you choose to save again.

Saved copies are not synced between devices, accounts, browsers or different website addresses, and we do not back them up. They may be visible to another person using the same browser. Avoid saving on shared devices. Private browsing, storage restrictions or clearing browser data may prevent saving or remove your copy; the tools display a status message and can still be used in the open page when storage is unavailable.

Clear all saved plans asks for confirmation, then removes the saved destination, budget, checklist, comparison and route copies from this browser for this website address. It leaves current page entries in place until you clear or reload them. Resetting a page's entries does not by itself delete an older saved copy. Use the browser's site-data settings if the tool cannot clear storage.

Public guide and route-template links contain only the public page address and, for a route, the selected standard template. They do not contain your budget, checklist or other personal entries. The copy-link button writes that public address to your clipboard only when selected.

If you download a route packet or print a tool, you control the resulting file or paper and where it is kept or shared. The general hosting and cookie practices below still apply to page and file requests.

How long we keep information

We review stored contact and subscriber information manually each month. We delete routine contact correspondence from Squarespace and our email account within 12 months after the inquiry is resolved.

We keep your newsletter subscription information while you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe or withdraw your signup, we stop using your email address for newsletter updates and remove information that is no longer needed. We may keep a minimal record of your unsubscribe request to help ensure that you are not added back to the mailing list.

We may retain limited information longer where necessary to meet a legal obligation or address an unresolved dispute. We retain only what is needed for that purpose and delete it when it is no longer required.

Deleting information from our active records may not immediately remove copies held in our service providers' backups. Backup copies and information the providers retain for their own service operation or security are subject to their retention and deletion practices.

Hosting and security

Squarespace receives technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser and device information, referring pages and activity on this website. This supports hosting, platform operation and security. Squarespace explains how it handles information for its own purposes in its Privacy Policy.

The contact and newsletter forms use Google's reCAPTCHA service to help prevent automated spam and abuse. This service processes information needed to assess security risks and uses a security cookie when it runs. Google processes reCAPTCHA customer data to provide and protect the service. Learn about reCAPTCHA data processing.

Google provides our business email through Google Workspace (Gmail). It processes email content and related personal information on our behalf to provide and protect the email service under its Cloud Data Processing Addendum. Google separately handles service-related information as described in the Google Cloud Privacy Notice.

Cookies and analytics

Necessary cookies support this website's operation and security. Optional Squarespace analytics cookies are restricted until you accept them. We use summarized Squarespace analytics reports to understand visits and improve the website.

You can accept or decline optional cookies in the banner and change your choices at any time using Cookie Preferences. Declining optional cookies does not prevent Squarespace from processing basic visit information needed to operate its services. Squarespace explains its necessary cookies and analytics cookies.

External services

The photographs and artwork displayed on this website are uploaded to and served by Squarespace. Our overview maps and location diagrams are part of the pages; no interactive third-party map is embedded and the maps do not request your location. Opening an official map or directions link takes you to that provider. Their delivery is covered by the hosting practices above.

Image credits and other links may take you to Wikimedia Commons, Unsplash, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, shrines, transport operators or other external websites with their own privacy practices. When following those links, see the Wikimedia Foundation Privacy Policy, Unsplash's Privacy Policy or The Met's Privacy Policy, as applicable.

Some outbound links are marked “paid link.” We may earn a commission when you make a qualifying booking or purchase through one of them. Following a paid link takes you to another provider; that provider and its affiliate partners may use cookies or other identifiers to attribute referrals and transactions under their own privacy policies.

We do not put your private budget, checklist entries or other personal planning answers into these links. Read our editorial disclosure and the link labels on our booking and gear resources for the current commercial relationship. Read the provider’s privacy information before using its service.
